FIVE YEAR ASSESSMENT REPORT (5YAR)
The Five Year Assessment Report (5YAR) - is Ireland’s first national climate assessment funded by the EPA.
The Five Year Assessment Report (5YAR) – is Ireland’s first national climate assessment funded by the EPA. The key objective of the 5YAR is to deliver a review of our understanding of climate change based on scientific research and systematic observations in Ireland. Information contained in existing national and international research reports and publications will be synthesised, including the IPCC AR6, focusing on Ireland-specific issues. It will inform decision-making on actions to address climate change in the Irish context and will be published in 2023.
The 5YAR will be provided in linked thematic volumes with an overarching synthesis report. The thematic volumes are:
- Volume 1: Science: Ireland in a changing world.
- Volume 2: Achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
- Volume 3: Being prepared for Ireland’s future climate.
- Volume 4: Realising the benefits of transition and transformation.
At Trinity College Dublin, Prof. Jennifer McElwain, Dr Deirdre McClean and Dr Danielle Gallagher are part of a large multi-institutional team working on Volume 1 of this report. “Science; Ireland in a changing world” focuses on collating and translating the ongoing research on climate change in Ireland and globally and the projected impacts and mitigation strategies across multiple sectors.

The results of this project have been published in the form of a comprehensive report, that provides detailed insights on climate change in Ireland. The Synthesis Report is available on the EPA website.
